2013 Hot Rod Power Tour!

sad news, we made the difficult decision to cancel our plans to go on the Power Tour this year. We have had many issues with my oldest son and grand daughter. I won't bore you all with the details but needless to say we have wiped out our vacation budget trying to help them out. Tara and I are very depressed about it. We have been going for 3 years now and with more SFer's going than ever it was especially hard to cancel but when you have no funds it just doesn't make sense. I really didn't even want to post this this as it makes it official. Tara cancelled all our hotel reservation too. The things we do for our kids!
So anyway, I will really look forward to seeing all your guys pics. I still can't believe I'm not going. :censored

Really sorry to hear this news, Craig. I know how much you look forward to this cruise each year. Just think how terrific your return to it next year will feel!

Sorry to hear Craig. Family come first. I might have to take a side trip on the way back home through KY. Got get the map out to see how far off the route back home you are.

yes, maybe I'm silly but this is what having the car is all about to me. driving it, and with other who enjoy driving theirs and seeing the country!
I hope the route in 2014 will be one we can do!

that would be awesome. We have room if you want to stay overnight!

Wow, really sorry to hear that Craig, you're the person that got me interested in this cool and crazy adventure, my wife and I will miss the both of you. We'll carry your part of the SF banner, whatever that means. :confu Family is very important and you have to take care of them first! Hope everything works out.

2014???

Well that sucks Craig. I know how much you love the power tour. Maybe next years route will work for more fixers and be even bigger.

Let us know if you need anything. We've got lots more kids stuff in the basement.

thanks guys, yeah the Power Tour has become a tradition and it's been so much fun. I am going to miss the trip and hanging out with you all. Maybe 2014 we can get back in. We always worried the route would be too far away or something. This one is perfect and I would have never thought we wouldn't be going.
My son and his GF have been struggling just to get by in the small town we live in. We had the baby for a while. They have decided to move back to the Chicago area. The GF has a better chance of working and my son says he will go back to school. So that means they are taking the baby with them. That's probably been the saddest part. We will probably not see her too often. They are going up to live with my ex wife. My wife and I don't get along with her too well so visits will be hard.
My son bought a Honda Prelude with the intent of it being better on gas. It's been a money pit and it's still here at my house. They are gone (yesterday) but I will fix the car and drive it up for them. With all the things we have done for them we have just spent all of our play money. It's just what you do for your kids/grandkids!
Sorry to derail the thread. The Power Tour is such a great way to enjoy cars the way they were meant to be and the friendships are icing on the cake. I was especially looking forward to cruise with Larry and his wife and Jon and his wife. It's so cool to do the trip and have friends to stop and eat with and share the sites is hard to describe. I hope to see lots of pics!

Craig, If they continue the tradition of picking up where they left off, wouldn't 2014 still put you kind of the the center of things no matter which direction they take. I'm sort of hoping 2014 does something like go up the north east coast some before heading back west ... I'm hoping to do a few legs of the 2014 tour and that would make it a bit easier for us north easterners,

yes, I'm hoping they stick to tradition, but it's hard to be sure. A couple of times they started in different locations, for example in 2009 they ended in Bristol TN and in 2010 they started in Iowa, ??? not sure why. Then 2010 we ended in Mobile AL and 2011 we started in Cocoa Beach FL.

Sorry to hear that Craig, but understandable that you would help your kids and grandkids out.

Craig, :beer For your family efforts. :thu

Sorry you will miss the tour.

One day I'd like to try that but driving across country at 10mpg :steer would be very expensive.

well I have been very depressed that we can't do the "long haul" this year :rant
but we will be driving down to Birmingham and Chattanooga. I had some Hotel points so the rooms are free and the distance isn't too far from home so I can afford that much gas! So I am looking forward to see you guys in those two spots anyway!
