I'd forego the chemical usage myself. Especially if you intend to retain anything under that stuff like body fillers. Fillers can and will absorb moisture. This is why I always suggest epoxy on bare metal before using fillers. Anyone who has ever stripped a car down to metal has seen rust under filler that developed because it absorbed moisture before it was sealed over. You don't want to have filler under your top coat that has absorbed anything like a paint stripper, etc. Recipe for another disaster.

Get some 80-120 discs for your sander and knock that crap off. You'll need a grit of this aggressiveness not just to clear the surface of that Eastwood crap but also to give bite for whatever you come back with to start over. I say start over because that is what you need to do if you want to end up with a decent finished product. It won't take much to lay down a bit of filler to repair whatever gets messed up in the process and you'll be back to the point you can then lay down a proper base from which to move forward.

We all learn our lessons along the way. No shame in that. What you don't want to do is compound it by trying to find shortcuts to try and correct anything. It just ends up costing more in materials and time. Been there done that.
thats fair, i am trying to avoid screwing up the bondo but i will go that route with higher grit...I was hopeful it stuck, and i had done a 200 grit over all the car before epoxy.

Thanks for all the help

On the bright side, the exhaust and fuel systems are all in place now. I need to add fuel and see if she will fire on her own. Will be the 1st time, as before it was always an electronic pump from a gas tank in front of the car lol

It was a bad day. Took awhile but got the car running off its own tank....Tach wasn't working and didn't think anything of temps look warm but not bad noticed the fan wasn't running....

Well anyway finally found the PCV wasn't connected and boom she's running good........Then the lower rad hose just BLEW UP!!! FML and these janky crap hose types

What in the hell is that hose? It looks like someone pieced together a makeshift hose adapter, it was destined to fail!

yeah it was one of those kits they sell....I couldnt find a hose that fit right at the time so put that on there......I have a hose on now and everything seem good

Finally started sanding the epoxy runs down smooth with 220 grit. It may end up somewhat salvageable but will definitely need spray epoxy when im done flattening it out

I wondered what happened to you. Been quiet a long time! Good to see you back.

I still recommend taking ALL that primer stuff off. I wouldn't trust it under anything. Not after seeing how it went on and how it "cured". I just have zero faith it has any chance of being reliable. All the effort that goes into a paint job and cost of all the materials would be at risk. Scares the crap out of me.

I have just been dreading doing all the sanding so have been working on my 71 Satellite trying to get it running from the summer. Its up and running but now has a leak coming from the torque convertor.

i think it was a combination of bad application and not enough heat. I ran the heat in the garage for 2 days before and im guessing the temps weren't right but im just trying to be very careful not to mess up the sail area where all the Bondo work is.

Moving forward, ill probably make sure the garage stays 70 for a whole week ahead of such applications but we will see how it all goes

Cars looking great! Wish I had a spot to work on my 68 like that.
Yeah, its nice having some room

After a lot of sanding and cleaning, the back half is back in epoxy. This time i used "Grey" SprayMaxx 2k Epoxy....

Bet you're glad that is all behind you now!

I've used quite a lot of similar 2K aero can stuff myself (Eastwood). I use the primers to coat bare metal after I am done working on it but just on parts not body panels. The one thing I noticed was it was pretty easy to find myself spraying too dry on the part surface. Not sure if it had to do with the chemical mix of the paint relative to the environmental conditions (mainly temp) or more about nozzle distance or such. This obviously gives me some bit of worry about adhesion and longevity. This is why I use it as a temp solution for protection and then I sand off and recoat with material I mix and apply with a regular gun. How did you find this stuff laid down? Did you get a good wet lay on out of it? Looks like the can has the same nozzle as the Eastwood can. I like the fan it provides.

it laid down pretty good, i really did a light coat 1st and then went on quiet a bit heavier. I like the stuff but it certainly would be way easier to do mixing and using a regular gun. With most stuff though, its easier to use a can to prevent tons of dust. Ive actually used the Eastwood as well but its more expensive and ships much slower then the Spray Maxx i get off Amazon.

I scruff the Epoxy, Sprayed it down with High build, and started blocking. I need to start on the fenders and other parts so more epoxy on the way to get to them

Found rust under the e-coat on the drivers side fender so busting it down to bare metal. Almost got it ready for epoxy before my oribital blew up. Also got the Deck lid sanded smooth from the eastwood i messed up. Slow Progress. Ordered the new End Caps and Valance since i found it caked with Bondo.
