Autometer finally

B67FSTB

The NorCal dude from Belgium
Finally got the time to tackle the conversion of my 67 instrument cluster.
CMAYNA and others dudes inspired me but I wanted to do this better.
Any comments are welcome , even the bad ones.
This is done many times before but I wanted to show how I did it.
It took quite some time and many measurements , but my son made a .dwg file with all the dimensions for the base plate which is of metal.

I drilled some holes for the turn indicators lights /brake light / high beam light and wiper switch.
The ring that holds the glass of autometer gauges were removed and taped in with metal tape used by A/C technicians.

I reworked the cluster with a "dremel" but I did cut only the very neccesary so the cluster holds the meter a bit too.

Next were the "light caps"

one thing I have to do is to fill up the space from the meter to the base plate.
I use some plastic (d)rain tube.
Will post a pic later on .

Back of the autometer looks like this ( have ordered some parts from Midlife BTW great guy :thu :thu)

I thought you were in Belgium? Your water temp gauge looks like it belongs in Australia?

Next thing to do is to make some "filler rings" to minimize the play between gauge and backplate.
I made those from regular plastic rain/drain pipe.

I glued them onto the gauges.

BTW this is my workspace for this job ....It was too beautiful outside to work in the basement.

Nice job, I never thought of the drain tube for spacers, have to remember that. I don't see any beer in the pictures, how do you do any work on car parts without beer? I suggest using the space taken up by the flowers and scented candle as a good spot.
Jon

I want to , but it will be very expensive due to the matter that I am from the other side of the big pont.
I will sent you the file you need to lasercut the backingplate.
B.

Damn some of those clusters are almost as much as I paid for my 66 new off the showroom floor.

Hello stangfixerfrom up north of europe !!!

I will sent you a DWG file so you can lasercut the backingplate out of metal.
If you need more info , don't hesitate to shoot me a PM

To Craig
If you look around to acquire the gauges and tackle this job by your own , you can make a cluster for half the amount.

But hee ... some have more money then time !! :roll :roll

Me ?? I have more time then money
