Boom's Boosted Bullitt

I have the 20 ton HF unit that I inherited from my father-in-law. It does 95% of my press needs, only once have I had to take a project to work to get the job done. That was a case of too long of an axle to fit the HF unit. HF quit giving out the "store wide" coupons, now just have coupons on specific items. If you keep watching you may catch the right one.

Yeah, I try and swing by whenever they have a decent sale and pick up something.

I saw the 12 ton press and couldn't believe how small it is. I'd have to operate it from a seat! Probably designed to keep folks from putting something huge in it.

There's a large shop press that's been sitting outside a shop on post that they're scrapping (because it doesn't have a safety shield:rolleyes:). I've already asked if I could have it. But I might be able to use it where it sits.

I have that 12 ton. So far it has done everything I have needed to do. Bought it to rebuild T5s. Worked great for that and I've done a few axle bearing swaps too with it. Also a bit of heavy gauge metal bending via some custom tooling forms. It's smaller size is great for tucking away when not needed.

Do you think it'd do wheel bearings? Everyone says bigger is better, but I wouldn't be opposed to the lil press if it worked.

Could always try it amd see. I imagine they'd take it back of not.

It will do wheel bearings. I haven't run into anything yet it couldn't handle. If doing rear axle bearings, depending on axle length, you might have to invest in a couple lengths of a 6x6 timber to elevate it high enough to gain the travel distance you might need but actually pressing off the bearing is no issue.

Used my new Binford 12000 press I picked up from Harborland. Had to press the knuckles twice, once from each side to first get the hub out, then the wheel bearing.

Had a race pop put with one of the hubs. Thats gonna be a swift kick in the jimmies to remove. Thinking cutoff wheel and chisel probably.

Got the hub soaking in evaporust overnight to try and clean it up a bit.

The other bearing came out in one piece, but man was it in there. Did not want to come put. Thought I was gonna break my new press.

Need to clean the knuckles up tomorrow with some brillo pads and wire brush.

Got some new Timken bearing to install too. Still waiting on the cross axis bearings.

I'm still impressed by thay evaporust stuff.

Here's the one hub after sitting in the stuff overnight. Got the other hub soaking now

I also got the new driveshaft delivered. Very nice looking. I plan on ordering a new seal for the trans tailshaft and some new bolts to attach the shaft to the pinion flange.

Not much to update. Been waiting on these dang cross axis bearings for months now. Might have to order from the other company and cancel the ones from Maximum Motorsports.

Weather was nice today so I figured I wash the ole car off.

Was perusing the open box items on American Muscle and saw they had an EatonTru Trac on there as open box. They even had a code for an extra 15% off open box items.

Looked practically new in the pictures, and seeing it in person is even more believable. Looks like some clown tried to install this and some gears with a hammer apparently. The bearings are pretty banged up but the diff itself is pretty much unblemished.

I'll get some better pics once I get some gears.

Yeah, just debating what gears I want to go with. The Bullitts have 3.27 stock, was leaning torwards 3.73. I do plan one day doing a KB supercharger so don't want too much gear.

For sure you want the 3.73, period. I put a KB on my old Roush and beat it like no body's business all day, every day. It had a 3.73 and the stock 3650 trans. Broke the trans a couple times but everything else loved it. You've got an overdrive gear to make up for the fun rear gear. Do NOT limit your fun by running a puny gear. 90% of your driving will be normal street stuff where all the fun is to be had. How often do you think you will really go out and open it up on a highway for extended high speed runs (high rpm)? By the way, that Roush hit 155 mph as a top speed with the same set-up

That has to be one of the worst shifting transmissions ever built. The one in the 03 Mach was miserable.

I have looked at t56s, but they're priced out of reasonable markets. I have a brandy new TKX still sitting in my living room meant for the 68. Of the trans goes then ill have to upgrade. The 3650 is a bit notchy at times. The newer 6 speeds apparently aren't great and don't fit these cars very well.

Thanks for the recommendation of the 3.73s!

Yet to get myself a TKX but one will find its way into the 65 someday. That would be a great trans to consider for the Bullitt.

Just got off the phone with American Muscle. Got some Ford Performance 3.73 gears and install kit on the way. Gave me an extra discount, too.

I've been cleaning up some 7.3 parts I had from a spare engine for my truck. Got a bucket of Evaporust.

Check out what the rust was hiding here.

I haven't had the need to use Evaporust yet, but I am impressed with how well it cleaned that manifold. Looks like it is time for a replacement!
