Crappy radiator support bracket-updated.....OMG!!

Yesterday while Michael (KBMWRS) was over we started a test fit of the radiator and quickly discovered how crappy the reproduced lower radiator supports are. Not only was the lower support bracket itself incorrectly made not allowing it
to sit flush against the strut rod support, in the correct position to allow the mounting holes to line up, But the upper saddle was welded in the wrong position not aligning up with the radiator. As you can see in the pic, the saddle needs to rotate counter clockwise about 5-10 degrees so the right side of the saddle would be more parallel with the right edge of the support bracket or the radiator support itself.

So last night I drilled out the spot welds wit me trusty spot weld drill bit. First I'll modify the lower support bracket to fit properly against the strut rod support, then I'll rotate the saddles and spot weld them into position.

At least they included all the parts for you to build the proper one. Never ending crap for sure.

Re: Crappy radiator support bracket

So I always hate it when I'm in this situation and somebody says this, but I'm going to say it anyhow..."I'm glad I had original parts to use."

Re: Crappy radiator support bracket

Packy was out, but I did borrow the ones from JeffTepper's project to study and after fitting them in place, I decided those repro's were not going to be worth cutting, welding, etc.

Luckily I found some other repro's which according to the pics look identical to originals. Waiting for them to arrive next day or two.

Got the other repro's in today and OMG what a difference. They fit as well as the OEM's, if not better. Goes to show you that in some cases there is not just one manufacturer of repro items. Who ever produced this second set is NOT the same as who produced the first set. Night and Day....

Got the better ones via ebay from Mr. Mustang of Trotwood, OH for $20+postage. Locate ebay item# 120443134616.
