Do I really need a steel pump-to-carb fuel line?

Thanks guys, I just ordered 2 meters of steel 5/16 fuel line and will hard pipe it to the carb. Do I make a double flare for the fuel pump connection, like with brake lines?

I don't believe so.... most carb inlet fittings use an AN type fitting.
Don't forget there are different angles of flares. the -an flare is 37° and the standard brake flare angle is 45°.

I simply went to CarQuest and got a small length of 3/8 line with the fittings installed.

I cut it to length and used a tubing bender to shape it from the fuel pump to my carb. Then used a 2" length of fuel hose to mate the steel line to the Holley. No flaring needed.

Don't forget to secure the line to the water pump or timing cover. If you have a line from the pump to carb that is not secured, the steel line will eventually break from metal fatigue due to vibration.

I've read to not use 100% metal, the vibration of the engine is prone to loosen the joint that way. Not sure if theres any truth to that, but it sounds reasonable to me. I used 3/8 tubing with 5 inches of -6an stainless on each side(carb and pump) to act as a buffer from the vibrations.

+1 same here.
