gtscode's interior - update 03/05

Ok, Over the next 4-5 days a couple of us will be pretty busy buttoning up Justins car interior sublayer, meaning sound and vibration deadening. We are using a couple different products from www.secondskinaudio.com. Doing this will allow his better half to know for sure each time Justin accidently lets one rip. The audio decible level will be frightening to say the least.

In order, here's a couple pics.

Preparing firewall for firewall pad and heater box install. Applying Second Skin's diamplifier pro vibration dampening material.

Today I applied the first coat of Second Skin's spectrum, roll on , brush on materials in the rear quarter's interiors, a difficult area to apply the diamplifier material. Tomorrow or Thursday, I will apply a second coat so we end up with a minumum of 1mm coverage.

Once it dries, it will be a mild gray color. What is nice about this material is that is also protects the metal underneath.

During the next 4-5 days, I will add pics as we go along.

Man looks good!!! Just so you all know I don't ask Craig to do any of this he just texts and tells me what he plans to do that day!!!

You rock Craig almost embarrassing really!

Re: gtscode's interior

How is that dampening material held in place? Is it a sticky-back setup or did you have to use a spray adhesive?

Re: gtscode's interior

Up top, I provided a link to Second Skin's website for you to study. Yes the silver damplifier pro material is is a
vibration sound dampening material is self adhesive. It works for sound deadening but to go all out regarding sound
deadening, you would then put a layer of Luxury Liner or Luxury Liner Pro on top of the damplifier. This is what Shag
has throughout.

By the time you have installed the Damplifier and Luxury liner throughout the car, you have indeed added some serious
weight.

Re: gtscode's interior

Just a pluggin away. Spent a couple hours apply 2nd coating of the Spectrum material in the rear quarters as I did yesterday. I then started apply the damplifier pro onto the interior sheetmetal working from the back, forward. It's kind of hard to see because the interior is already sort of silverish but if you look closely you can see the very back platform, parts of RH rear and back tunnel is covered. Hopefully a couple hours of work tomorrow and then Abraham is going to donate 3+ hours to the cause.

Then it dawned on me as I was straddling that tunnel, stretching, and manipulating the foiled material into place. It's kind of like straddling a woman, giving her a high demanding deep tissue massage.

I mean, my fingers are totally sore!! :wtf

Does the car get a happy ending?

Doubtful, but it will probably want to cuddle until it falls asleep.

Great work, Craig.

mmw68, I did quite a study of sound and vibration deadening materials which brought me to www.secondskinaudio.com. They are by far not the cheapest but I liked the information they provided on their website and more importantly they were highly recommended in numerous surveys and forums.

A typical mustang floor is 5x 8 = 40sq ft. I always go extreme so I'd suggest 60 sq/ft. You should study up on sound vs thermal vs vibration deadening. Typically 3 different products.

Today, I finished the back half (under the rear seat). Afterwards the car and I went out and had a cigarette :thu

I agree with you - Ant over at second skin has great products. He has done a fantastic job in the industry of informing people about deadening. We have done several Toyota Land Cruisers for customers in second skin before I decided to carry my own house brand. I was a wholesaler for his product as well, and only have good things to say about it.

And your right - it Typically 3 different product to achieve the the final result. Your project is coming along great!

The GT's looking good! I have a question, though. When I was last active in VMF and Mustang stuff -- which was in May-June 2008 -- gtscode had just had the car painted (iirc) and was targeting Hot August Nights as the car's debut. What's happened since then? I ask this from the veranda of my own glass house, having parked my '65 fb in July '08 and only recently taking steps to revive it. So I know how weeks turn to months turn to years. But I'm really curious about this car.

Kids, work, new house - life just gets in the way. I have a two year old and one on the way, moved into a new house and very busy at work with promotion. What can I say, I have been busy. Finally Craig felt bad and is helping me get a jump start. It will be at Knott's this year. It wouldn't even be this far without the NorCal gang's help.
