It wouldn't surprise me if John shaved them significantly to boost compression, but we're only talking thousandths there. You wouldn't see that in ground clearance. Many headers give you limited ground clearance, and it sounds like these are no exception.

If John shaved them then that would have the result of lowering the header tube. Granted not my much since we are talking about thousands. Still .250 over a distance can translate in more and when you can't make yourself slow down over speed bumps like Pete (hehehe) you are bound to drag.
