Month of the Convertible

I noted in the COTM voting for May that the top 3 finishers, including the winner, that fabulous beast owned by BDfire, were convertibles. Between the jet black winner, PJ's fabulous screaming yellow monster and my red "hole in the road that you throw money in" as SWMBO calls it, we collected over 60% of the votes. This is a proud moment for those of us who endure the hassles of the ragtop in order to experience the wind in our scalp where our hair used to be.

Thanks to all who voted for what WE all know are the coolest mustangs on the road. Verts rule.

Kev

You do realize that us fastback owners only vote for you convertible guys because we feel sorry for you only having half a car, right?

:rofl :rofl :rofl

Was reading a restoration book yesterday and in the chapter regarding buying your 1st car it said Convertibles are the most sought after of the three body styles with fastbacks a close 2nd. Put that in your 2+2 and smoke it! :lol :lol :lol

Here's the :wha for all you whiney fastback owners.

Yeah Verts ROCK>>>
That's why in the greatest car chase scene in movie history driven by the world's coolest guy, Bullitt, was made with a Vert.
Oh wait...no it wasn't. :lol :lol :lol :lol :lol

I voted for Kev's sweet ride though. :vic

"Fabulous screaming yellow monster" - that's a new one. :)

I've entered three shows with my car so far. There have been between 110 and 180 cars in each one. In each, I felt mine was clearly the best in it's class, of course. :) But, I came away empty handed in the first two and won my class in the last (and smallest) one. As I told my GF, "I finally entered a weak enough show to win something." :vic

Most judges don't care for the restomod / custom thing, it would seem. They seem to prefer "correct" restorations over customs like mine. I've lost to a Boss 302 and a Mach 1, neither of which was nearly as well exectuted as mine. And, I think yellow really turns some people off, no matter how nice the car is. I get lots of compliments and several who gush over the car at each show, but the judges are looking for something else. It's very frustrating to get snubbed at these shows, but I know what I have and it's what I want the way I want it and wouldn't change a thing (well, I would, but hindsight's always 20/20).

It kinda bothers me that there is so little participation in the COTM voting. Of the hundreds of members, only 34 voted. Wonder why that is.

That's not sour grapes. That's just commentary on the whole show / judging thing. If you live for trophies, you'll likely often be disappointed (unless your car is red or black :lol)

Of the hundreds of members there are only a moderate number of "regulars" and the voting is only up for a short time. Not everyone reads all posts, a few people didnt even know they had been nominated. In the future, I will try and send out a PM to those that are nominated before the poll goes up.

Perhaps we should send out an e-mail to all members with a link to the poll once voting begins....

If you mass email everyone, then only FB's will win.

Cuz everyone knows...........................

Great idea, try it out next month.

To be honest, when I scan the board for posts to read, I have forums I always read when there's a "NEW POST" indicator, and forums I NEVER read. The COTM forum I read very very rarely. I TRY to remember, but when I'm scanning, it just doesn't peak my interest.

I vote some months. This month I didn't even think to check.

By and large my "must read" boards are all the ones under 64 1/2 -1973 Discussion, and the Non-Mustang related discussion. Everything else I read rarely. Don't know why, I just don't think to read them.

Lately I've been reading less than that. Been busy at work. Somehow find time to post a few books when Duane asks a question in Politics, but that just makes it worse for me trying to read all the other posts.

That doesn't always work either!
I only enter some car shows, mostly because it's cheaper to get in as a participant and you get goodies and great parking! But with that said, I have entered several "Goodguys" car shows and my car doesn't even get noticed. There are radical Trailer Queen show cars that have chrome plated oil in the crankcase and I can't compete with that!
On the other hand, the small shows, like one put on by a school to raise money or a restaurant "cruise-in" I can usually get a trophy but still it's really hard to tell what judges like. I think your right on the original vs restomods. Not everybody understands or even notices all the mods but they know what an original should look like.
As for the COTM voting, I like to vote on them, it's a nice thing the site has to offer. I won before the banner thing so I didn't get that prize but it is cool to know the site promotes the guys/gals cars and visitors get to see a new car each month. I like it!

FYI not sure what year it was introduced, maybe 06, but the yellow that Ford used on the S197 Mustangs was called Screaming Yellow. :lol

And the end of this month caught me by surprise, I forgot to vote for the COTM. :shy But one vote would still be one vote short. :beat Congrats to the winner DBFire :10

Alright, maybe that was a stretch.

Don't you sometimes wish there was a three-second delay when hitting the "post" button? :)

Maybe put the COTM on the home page? I'd also like to see the COTM pics be posted earlier.

OK, OK...the verts get the month of April. The coupes will probably get one other month.

That leaves 10 months of the year for the true Mustang: the Fastback!
