New Project! 1968 Volvo P1800 "Bullwinkle"

Flush+ is the best look ever so slightly extended. You have to consider how it will look when sitting on its own four feet. The car will sit very low. If shaped to fit the contour of the valance the tips would fade down out of sight, I believe. It will not be aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The finish shape on the bottom lip of the valance is also not refined for this reason.

Thanks for the input.

The car sees the sun for the first time in a little over a year.

Sleek. All the mods came together nice. Subtle. Love the way the front has all come together.

Looking amazing.

I personally have always wanted one. I even kind of like the es version.

Thanks guys. I think the original car had great lines to start with. I hope the changes we have made enhanced the original car. So far the response has been pretty positive.

The car has way more ground clearance than I thought it would. The lowest point is the front valance. I will have to be careful with it. It is about 4” above ground. I was a little concerned about the x pipe but it looks great. The car should be about 1/4” lower than it is now.

Exhaust over the axle is done. Just need to install the resonators and tips. The guys at Rhom Innovations are a little concerned about expansion of the stainless exhaust, particularly with the V band clamps. Since I have 3 sets of them they feel that the stainless can expand about 10% when under heat. We plan on bolting the tip to the can and allowing the tailpipes to expand in a slip joint at the tip. I appreciate this level of detail.

Getting pretty close to coming home. I need to make a couple adjustments to the firewall. I need to rehang the heater box, ECO and tranny controller before it goes back to the body shop.

It's looking great.

The exhaust is done. It turned out great but I was not able to have the resonators next to the fuel tank. There just wasn’t space.

We are waiting for the radiator core to arrive. That is the last big item to finish up before coming home and doing some work here.

The story continues... Earlier today I made a deal on a Bosch M4 ABS setup. It is the same setup used by professional race teams. It is adjustable and totally customizable. It will take a little more effort and money to make the modification, but should be well worth it. The car will have traction control and anti-lock brakes. It will be fast, handle like no other and stop on a dime with a nickel in change.

A little more progress on the radiator. Still needs the steam vent, petcock and mount for my overflow tank but it is close.

You can see a little bit of the crossbar that supports the shock hoops. That will receive some triangulation to the firewall as well as some dimple die support. Really close to coming home for more work before paint.

Much like all projects in a mans life this has ballooned out of control. I love it lol.

Ain’t that the truth. This balloon has turned into a blimp. I just hope it isn’t the Hindenburg!

I was looking diligently for a Volvo p1800, but Gary didn't like it:( I think it's the coolest looking car design especially for its era. Of course can't forget the idea that it played a star roll in The Saint. Hm, I think I have more years left in me, perhaps in the near future to toy the idea again. In the meantime, I'm enjoying your creation;)
