Last week I visited my mom in Anchorage. Two years ago while visiting I was doing some yard work for her and I broke the handle on her old garden froe. I took measurements and a tracing of the broken handle. It took me until a few weeks ago to find a replacement. She is giddy with anticipation to use it this fall. The forged head has 'US' and '1942' on it. She said the hickory handle was 'beautiful'.

I used my last piece of seasoned hickory to fix the maul. Need to cut down another hickory tree!

When I cleaned out the big barn last weekend to get it ready for concrete, I found my Great Grandad's shovel. I cleaned it up a bit. Wish I took the time to fill the rust pits before I painted it. Well that will be a project for the far future.



I also cut down a few small hickory trees to season for future handles. Plus some for smoking some beef when I get the young bulls butchered.

Two projects this week for me:
1. Our neighbors moved this past weekend and offered to sell me their xtra heavy duty smoker/grill. I wasn't interested when I went over to look at it but it was too good to pass up. I picked a spot in our small back yard and laid a pad of 2" slate pieces I had. We then moved the 400+ pound smoker into place last Saturday. I will took some pics and will post when I get home next weekend.
2. My wife and I are having custom bedroom closet systems installed today. I spent this past weekend removing all our clothes and other items from both closets and removing the existing clothes racks, pulled up the carpet and removed the carpet tack strips and pad from the floor. Will take pics next weekend and post. Expectations are high on the results.

Yeah! I got two 5 gallon containers without the vents, and really want them back.

There is a kit at tractor supply for this. I will try to remember to dig the package out of the trash to tell you who makes it.

Julie likes vintage stuff so I made a couple desktop lamps out of some junk. Need to figure out had to do a lamp shade.

Made a Christmas wreath out of an old roll of barbed wire.
