Why is there an added reinforcement plate on the firewall behind the master cylinder?

My thought is the only reason for something like that on a non PB 67-68 Mustang (65-66 sometimes use a reinforcing plate for PB upgrades) is that the firewall is broken or rusted through and is too weak to support pedal pressure. My opinion is the cowl rust is not confined and rotted out parts of the firewall, which the seller covered w/fresh paint). (I replaced my drivers side outer firewall)


If Nick mashes the brakes too hard he is liable to go right through the firewall.
