Uncle Vinny

Thanks for taking the time to update us during a hectic time.

Best wishes and we're praying for a speedy recovery.

Wow, talk about a snowball effect. Hope he is well soon and will see you both at Knott's.

Hey Toni, I hope Vinny is doing much better. Evidently, it's 48 hours post surgery and hopefully he's been moved to a more comfortable room. Give him our best as Brenda and I are thinking of him. I know things are tough for you right now but time heals all. Please let me know if we can do anything for you and Uncle Vinny.

All our Best,

Ron and Brenda

Hi Everyone
It's 11:30 pm and I've been at the hospital since 8am this morning

Uncle Vinny is still in Trama ICU. They did not move him yet since
he has alot of difficulty coughing up all the junk they put in him
The pain attempting to cough is quite high.

They are giving him breathing therapy every 4 hours.
Some kakamayni machine that is like a vaporizer for 5 minutes
every 4 hours.

His blood count is a little low...they originally were going to
give him a blood transfusion, but after I asked to talk to the
doc about that...they then said they will re-assess him tomorrow
(Feb 8) morning.

They took the pain medicine button away and give him only
2 hydrocodone (he only took one).

No food or water since when they checked him the water was
going into his lungs instead of his stomach. So...they thicken
the water with what they call: Nector thickening which comes
in little 4 oz packets.

Pnemonia is not where we want to go.

The doc that did the surgery said to him today that in the
13 years he is doing this surgery his case was one of the
worst he ever saw. I was not there when doc appeared
but I'm sure that comment troubled him. Doc said they
did what they had to do...and I hope he is right.

It would be nice to see him walk more than 50 feet without
grimising in pain.

So I've tried to turn the disappointment of not getting out of Trama ICU
into a better thing: You are getting the best care this hospital can give you
being in ICU. He, of course, poo-poo's me...but...that's his way

I told him to FIGHT HARD to get that crap out of his lungs. I know it
hurts alot...but put your Italian Bronx fighting cap on and do it.

He does not know yet that I've posted this...and...I'm sure I'll get
blasted for it...but...so what...I've been blasted by him before.

I'm sure that you're prayers are reaching the BIG GUY in heaven
and I'm humbled and touched by you all taking the time out of
busy days to do that. Thank you...Uncle Vinny needs all the help
he can get right now.

If I have anything to say about all this...He Will Heal...and I'll
do whatever it takes to get him there.

God gave us all 2 hands...one to give...one to get...and you
fellas certainly have learned to use both. Thank you

I'll let you know what progress is made tomorrow (Fri: 2/8)

I just back inside from putting mine in my mailbox this morning. Best wishes to both!

FYI to all, yesterday I called the hospital who said that while he's in Trauma ICU, he cannot accept anything such as cards, etc. They told me to call back today to see if he has been moved. I will do so and report back to all. Maybe Toni can keep us updated as well.

Can you imagine how irritable Vinny is with all that equipment hooked up to him? :rant

I bet he can't even cop a feel from one of them pretty lady nurses.

You may want to send any cards to our home address
and I can bring them to him

5500 Linkside Court
Fuquay Varina, NC 27526-8499

Off to hospital and I'll update when I can

Not having Miss Gypsy to come home while I leave
Uncle Vinny at the hospital has been a eerie

Toni

Toni, have they told him to hold a pillow to his chest/abdomen when he's coughing? That really helps with the pain.

Just got off the phone with Toni who had to go out to her car in the hospital's parking lot just to take a break. Sounds like they're going to keep Vinny in the ICU maybe through the nite.

I'm sure we all can realize what Vinny is going thru, but poor Toni sounded so frazzled having just given their dog to the gods and then her husband to the doctors the very next day. I just can't imagine it. Let's keep the prayers flowing.

IMO, considering they essentially cut his aorta right at/below his kidneys, that the catheter is already out and he's pissing on his own, though with effort, is really good news. It appears he's coherent, able to follow the instructions of the nurses and therapists, and is able to move with assist from bed to chair.

He'll be chasing the nurses before we know it :thu

Having been to the house many times, IMO that's a great space to brighten right now, given the sudden ending to Gypsy's presence as well as Vince, who's nearly always around, being gone. It's a huge empty space for Toni now, in addition to her still getting 'used to' North Carolina. Very stressful.

I hope his progress continues and he and Toni make their annual pilgrimage to the mecca of Ford shows, Knott's. It would certainly be very different without them. Best wishes and prayers from California.
