Well that was a surprise

I have had my eyes out for a solid body to swap the drivetrain out of my mustang into. My old T-Code was fun to learn on but needs more metalwork than is worth doing to the old girl. I have lots of new good parts on her though so I thought if I get something solid that needs and engine trans etc I could be up and running fairly quickly and not have to be annoyed with the current stang continuing to rust to pieces. I mentioned my plans to my GF and told her I was thinking about looking at this particular mustang: http://longisland.craigslist.org/cto/2170179462.html I figure I better warn her before I do anything since we just bought a place and she wouldn't be too keen on me spending a bunch of money right now.

Her response to me was if you really want another Mustang why don't you get rid or yours and just buy one that is done already? Needless to say, I was completely surprised. Her logic is right, but I was thinking I would spend as little as possible right now out of pocket and I could come close to breaking even after parting mine out.

What a dilemma. :confu

That Craigslist coupe is worth looking at IMO. However, we all know that projects cost more in the end, but the experience and satisfaction are second to none.

Before You make up your mind or just think what you should do , go and check out this car.
After that you can make a discission of what to do.
The car is maybe a wreck too !!

Buy a decent driver and then slowly bring it up to your taste/specs.

+1

That's what I am doing. I just don't have the time patience and money for a ground up build.
I drive mine all summer then tear apart and rebuild stuff during the winter.

It's my opinion that if there is rust coming out on the quarters and doors, then the rust is probably everywhere in places where panels meet and in others you can't see.. In doing my car, I've found rust in places I wasn't worried about in the beginning and now I'm really glad I've cut out more than I originally planned. So, if you want a solid body, don't settle for less than zero rust.

All valid points. I'm going to try to take a look at this one Wed or Thurs but that will depend on the weather. Looks like we are getting slammed with ANOTHER winter storm this week. If it is fairly solid (rust bubbling concerns me) it might be worth it. Engine and trans swap put the interior back in and it could be a decent driver. In the meantime, the search widens.... Now where's that vert I was wanting??
