Yep...if it's handed to you then you won't appreciate it for certain.

I completely disagree--it depends on the person. I was handed my coupe and have always appreciated it. As for my Bronco and Superduty, I paid for those.

Yes, but your a Girlie, you lot got all the common sense!

It also depends on how your parents raised you....there are a lot of kids in my area that are spoiled brats and we've been very careful to raise our kids not to be like that.

I bought mine and built it up myself (with help of course) but I know I did treat it both harder and better than my friends treated their cars. I knew I would have to fix it if I broke it but I also knew it was mine and not my parents car. My dad did teach me a lot including how to be responsible. I paid for my gas and insurance too. I wanted the car and I really didn't NEED a car so if I wanted it I would need to pay for it. I learned a lot of lessons with that car!

I sold my lawn business to buy my first car at 17. Mom and Dad let me use the family truckster (71 Torino wagon) to haul the mowers around for a year. When I got tired of driving the wagon they said I needed to get another job or sell the mowing business to buy it. I look back now and wonder WTH they let me buy a frick'n Vega!

Dad did co-sign my first loan so I could get the car painted. It was some ridiculously small amount, but it started me down the path of excellent credit. I thank them for being good parents and not " good friends" every chance I get.

I put 10k miles on it in 3 months and my dad took over payments and the car when I got drafted. I got it back from him about 5 years later and drove it for another year or 2 until it became an engine donor for a Falcon. The body was very bad and the floors and frame rails were pretty bad. Not sure what happened to the body though.

hmmmmm.... mine was pretty rotten, floors, frame rails etc. and it didn't have an engine. The guy I got it from bought it at an auction.

i had a 70 maverick with a 289 my sophmore and junior year. i sold it to get the mustang i have now.

i then drove a 64 futura (when it was still powder blue) part of my senior year. everyone loved the old maverick. they hated the falcon.

this was the mid 90's so the school parking lot was full Ford Tempo's, Escort's, pontiac grand am's ,etc.

Nothing against the Maverick but love that Falcon. My friend had a red one in HS. Lost it one day at speed and hit a tree. He joined the long list of Spear-o-Matic victims, unfortunately. His dad put the car in the garage and it still sits there today.

Love Falcons as well (would trade my Mustang for one now except people would think me crazy). I picked up this one-owner Falcon in the early 70s for $750, later sold in the early 80s for $500.

i would have preferred it was a hardtop, but i was young with almost no money and couldn't afford the price of a hardtop falcon at the time.

i would love a 63, 64 or 65 falcon hardtop. one of the nicest looking fords. i can completely understand if a person wanted to trade a mustang for one.

Started driving in '64, then legally in '66. First car was a 1939 Ford Deluxe with a flat head V-8, 239 cubic inches with a three speed trans. Beat the crap out of it until the cluster gear in the trans gave up. Then moved up to a 63 1/2 Galaxie with 427, the 410 horse version with a single carb. The first pic was in 1967, after a carb backfire and some work to hide the burnt hood resulted in the last picture. The bad part is that it weighed in around 4200 lbs.

This is what I drove. A 69 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler. The Cale Yarborough edition. That was the first car I ever bought. Picked it up for 600.00 bucks. Damn I loved that car!

hmmmm indeed. Do you remember what engine it had originally? Mine was a T code sport sprint with a 3 speed.

Very cool! 351 or 428? Can we assume it didn't look like that when you bought it?

mine was a C code 289 2V with an auto... I guess I don't have your old car after all. Mine was also a sports sprint however...

First was an 81 Chevy Celebrity. Next was the first car I bought a 69 Mach 1. Wish I never got rid of it. Insert image of me kicking a can.
