What to do now Dave... **UPDATED** with pics! (be warned...)

I had a tri pod from a .50 cal machine gun fall over on my big toe breaking it in the process. The corpmen insisted on removing the nail with me insisting that they leave it alone. The corps man used a pair of scissors and cut down the center of the nail and grabbed one side with pliers and yanked it off. He grabbed the other side yanked and the pliers slipped off so he had to do it again. To add insult to injury he insisted on poking and prodding the exposed wound to "make sure he got it all". To this day my nail still grows in two pieces where he cut it in two.
 
take the band aid off your toe to let it breath. It helps it dry out and give it a temp nail till the new one grows out. I have years of experience from loosing nails due to hammer blows and running too much.
 
look @ the bright side... can't be any worse than this:
