My SHO is no more.

Glad you're not hurt and all is good with you. Sorry the SHO is gone, nice cars, I think the new ones are a bit too big. As far as a new/different car, BUY AMERICAN!!! An American car company built car.

Glad to hear you are ok, Frank. Scary....
Sounds bad...is the engine shot? Can it be rebuilt and put into your stang? Wasn't sure about fitment.....

Glad you are okay and that you had video.
I have a 2011 Taurus SE. I love it. I have put over 80,000 miles on it. Its my company car. Its due to be replaced soon and Im told they will give me a Fusion. My buddy has a 2012 SHO and he let me drive it. Wow! What a nice car! Love to have one of those. I had an 89 SHO 5 speed. It was a great car.
Good luck with everything.

if you are looking for a new sedan type replacement, the Mazda6 seems to be getting rave reviews in the auto press

I really like the Mazda 6, it's a bit more distinctive compared to all the competition. Any thoughts on the Mazda 3? A bit smaller, lighter, cheaper, but as roomy as the 6.

I rented a Subaru Legacy for the last 2 days (Mustang sprung a coolant leak Monday morning). Pleasant car, more than enough room for me, adequate power. I imagine all the cars in its class will be about the same. I drove the Fusion a few months ago and it was very roomy as well. I want to try to rent a Mazda 6 or 3.

Frank:

My son has a '09 MazdaSpeed3 hatchback. It is a very nice car with tons of power and a silky 6 speed manual trans. It is plush, very well equipped, remarkably roomy and versatile with the fold down rear seat. I've driven it a number 9f times and I like it a lot. If you want to drive it, let me know and I'll "borrow" it.

Regards, Jeff'

my niece has a Mazda 3 automatic and it's a good commuter car. I'd look for a little more and recommend the Fusion - it is much nicer.

No input on the Mazda 6....

Are you seriously considering a foreign make? Really? And you guys can save the "but it's built in such and such" arguments. At the end of the day, the profit dollars leave our shores. Or worse, buy some of it. FORD make great products. If you want smaller take a look at the various Focus models, too.

So how long is your commute? A lot of stop and go traffic? We all like the manual trans, but if you have a long commute with a lot of stop and go it will wear on you. I had a 90 Escort GT 5 speed manual. At the end of a 2 to 3 hour drive in rush hour traffic my left leg was killing me. And the clutch in the Escort was very light. Food for thought, and you do have the 5 speed in the Mustang. :)

Sucks about the sho. The wife and I just bought a 14 fusion energi to replace my escort wagon as a commuter. I drive 60 miles round trip mixed highway and city, and am averaging 60ish combined. It costs about a dollar a day to charge, and that takes care of the first 20 miles. After the initial charge is depleted it acts like a normal hybrid. Loads nicer than a prius, and handles better too.

Jeff, the current base 3 has 155 hp, about 100 less than your son's car. It's rated at 41 mpg hwy, though, which is my primary concern at this time (100 mile round trip commute). It might be a little too much compromise, though. I'll have to test drive both the 3 and the 6.

It's not that I want smaller, I want fuel efficient, roomy and relatively inexpensive, and a bit of performance would be nice. The Fusion looks like every other car in its class. I like it, but the Mazda 6 has a little more style. All the cars I've owned have been Fords, and the Fusion isn't off my list (nor is the Focus for that matter), but I do like the Mazda.

How 'bout that 1 liter 3 cylinder ecoboost motor that the 2015 Focus will offer? ;)

I don't see the benefit of the hybrid in my case, 100 miles round-trip, almost all off-peak highway driving.
