I would highly encourage looking at the Timesert or equivalent product while the engine is out of the car. Doing it in the car was a monumental undertaking. I was able to rent the toolset locally and just purchase the inserts. Now that the heads have been done and are at home, I can still do this?

Yes, I did it with the heads in the car. If you have the heads outside the car it will be simple. I had to worry about dropping aluminum bits inside the cylinders during the drilling and insert procedure.
