69 Sportsroof "Mystique"

Way better approach to go with the original doors for a ton of reasons. I wouldn't be me if I didn't caution about the need to do a seriously in-depth and detailed effort to remove any existing rust and rot behind the skin in the guts of the door before sealing it all back up. As advanced as it had gotten it will come back very rapidly and eat into the new metal way faster than you expect. What did you do in the rough old metal areas to make sure you will not have the cancer return? It looks really rough where you sprayed that red, I assume, primer. I see some really thin (even holes) metal in areas. That corner brace piece is hiding some serious rust/rot on it's backside and around where it meets the other metal. Hate to see you go through all this effort to only start to see paint bubbles just a year or two down the road.
I took and tried to clean it with my angle grinder then hit it with weld through primer on both sides of the metal. The inner section has a hole on the bottom too so there is definitely more to be taken care of. Next step i plan to do more cleaning then coat the inside with rust encapsulator

well that didnt last the more i dug the bottom was pretty rotten on the 69. I started to patch the inner corner and it just went ok, but i started cutting away at the repo

Fitment is better and we can latch, gonna need to add a good bit on the hinge side though. I do need to cut more at the top as i didnt go all the way up

Man, look at that huge access hole right there next to the latch! Lol jk, I love the vent/scoops on that body.

Sucks to find that old door isn't salvageable after doing all that work. Repro looks like its fitting much better now that its trimmed.

So waiting on my upper hinge pin i decided to dig into the cowl side.....sheesh......this car just keeps giving me more work

All in all its not that bad...for a 69 - 70 body....I guess

back to cutting, cleaning, and fitting. New Front rocker patch from a 68 mustang piece. I ordered it awhile back because didnt look like they just made the 69 front piece. Fits pretty well

Trying to decide if i should just delete the air box...Kind of like the air but the window does work so lol

Welded the rocker most the way in before running out of welding gas per usual. Then made my inner cowl patch out of some 14 gauge sheet metal left over from the chaos of the Torino. Went ahead on completely blocked off the cool air vents. I also cut out and made 2 x 14 gauge patches for the A Pillar where there was some issues on the upper hinge.

Welded in the inner cowl, grinded it down, coated it, seam sealed it, coated it more, reinstalled the air vent, welded in both layers on patch on the hinge area and coated it as well365758936_10167635897300521_6122887048351335836_n.jpg

Thats an odd spot for a fresh air vent, the 68s have them in the cowl. I thought that hole was for a speaker when I first saw it.

69s are different when it comes to the cowl. Instead of a small leak hole it's a big hole and the cowl side goes over it and has a hole at the bottom. Maybe it causes a little less cowl rust but my front rockers sure were nasty

small bottom patch, spot welded the outer cowl in, and coated it with paint, then some seam sealer. Almost back to where i can hang the door again! lol

Building a whole new fuse box...Its actually for the 71 Torino but they are the same as the 69 Mustang

Building like in 3d printing?

Is this gonna be a stock style replacement? Using blade fuses instead of the glass tubes?
