70_Fastback: RAT ROD - 193x Ford / 1942 GMC Truck

I'd much rather just cut up that old bed and shorten it to my liking. Call me crazy.

But I like to do shart the hard way. :beat

I was just going back and re-reading some of this thread and noticed what you said here Craig2.

I bought this about a month ago... LoL

since I am running an auto tranny though, I am going to attempt to mod the handle/lever on the grenade to be a release handle to engage & disengage the position marker on the shifter so it can't be bumped out of gear easily.

I will have to make that handle stick out at a 45 degree angle or so, and drill the grenade housing to route the attaching rod though. Anyone who has installed an aftermarket B&M shifter will know the rod I am referring to.

Picked up some more parts for the rat. Got an "old school" tunnel ram. It's brand spankin new. Got it pretty darn cheap too. That old stock 4 barrel intake manny was not going to cut it...

This thing is a MONSTER. It's HUGE. It's going to sit up nice and tall on that engine.

I see a theme going on here, huge, overcompensating intakes on both vehicles............Hmmmmmmm

I would like to get some user input on this one... I mocked up the bed with the cab to get a feel for the "length".

As you can see, the standard "short" bed is about 2 times too long. The box currently measures 6'-6". I hurridly photoshopped a couple of scenarios:

(1) is the stadard, way too long 6'-6". (2) is a 4'-6" box and (3) is a 3'-6" box.

I'm tore between the 4-6 & the 3-6... any input?

I think they all look out of place with the tire. You need a little more sticking past the back tire. But just bed length. No doubt its 4 -6". Any smaller and it looks like a weird trunk.

I prefer the look of the tire being farther back & not centerd. It helps if you can see the front end mocked up as well. Sorry about that.

And Rick, I do not want to run a keg style tank - I will hide mine down below the frame rail "Z" area and have a filler nozzel up high.
