70_Fastback: RAT ROD - 193x Ford / 1942 GMC Truck

J, how'd it ride and drive? Self designed and built custom frame, suspension and steering...

Anything you'd change or did you get it right out of the gate?

Great story J, it's fitting for the Rat's first outing! Nice that you got to park next to Ecto-1 too.

You know Terry, I can't complain about a single thing on it really for a scratch built vehicle. It feels VERY solid while driving it. Steering is very touchy, yet tight. Brakes are manual drum... so they are what they are. But they stop it fairly well. Rear end/suspension feels great! A little bouncy due to the heavy springs - but I like how it feels while driving it.

The only thing I would have done different is the exhaust; it's just loud. I should have angled the megaphone tubes downward more instead of parallel with the frame... and my ears.

And to clarify, I had it out on the interstate keeping up with traffic, 65+. No front end wobbles, no wandering, no nothing.

I was wondering about it bottoming out on the road. I guess the trade off is the bounce you get with the heavy rear coil over springs. So impressive that you pulled it all off so very well and so quickly.

Probably a good thing you kept it Rat and didn't paint it after all. I hear porn star snail trail can really mess up fresh paint.

I have a good 4" of clearance under the frame rails, it's the cab rockers that hang down. But they are rolled inward already, so they just flex & curve inward then rebound back out. I found out twice... :thu

That is just plain cool.....the whole build and all......glad to have been able to watch it grow.

so..... you ready to start the next one??? i got it right here at the shop waiting for you...

There ya go Rick. Even got rid of the cable and converted to a solid linkage for the shifting actuating.
