Boom's Boosted Bullitt

Sorry that he couldn't do what you need/were looking for. If you do go the other motor route, I'd be interested in the Bullitt intake and associated components.
 
No worries, I completely understand their view.

Need to check the wiring in my trailer plug on the truck, my right signal doesn't work. Truck lights are fine so should hopefully be simple fix. Once that's done I can see about renting a trailer to take the Bullitt to the shop.
 
Been awhile since I updated this.

Haven't had a chance to do much of anything to the car due to weather. I finally got some time to try and address a few areas of concern.

I needed to addressed the belt issue. The blower pulley wasn't lining up with the rest of the pulleys causing the belt to lose a rib or two.

I was hoping it'd be as simple as pulling the old belt off, remove the blower, and reseat the pulley. Man, what was I thinking.

First issue I had to overcome was removing the belt. I've never been more perplexed. How did the designers expect this to go?

The square drive on the tensioner can only be seen from the bottom. Ok, inconvenient but manageable. I jack the car up and grab my tools.

Once I finally get my tools on the tensioner, I realize it was a wasted effort. The tools are right against the blower bracket. So no way to pivot the tensioner up

So I decided to look online for help. Found a video. Almost clicked away immediately since I saw the fellow pick up a pipe wrench. It worked for him, so I figired why not. Probably need to replace the tensioner anywho.

Found this toothless pipe wrench. Worked like a dream.

So after longer then I care to admit. I got the belt off the tensioner. Now it should pull right out....right?!?!

So to take the belt off I needed to take out that bolt and fight the belt around the various pulleys.
Once I got the belt off, I worked to disconnect the old feed and drain lines from the blower, then pulled the whole kit out the top.

Engine bay seems to have tons of room now. Need to clean it up a bit.

Here's the pulley on the blower. I feel like it should sit flush with the shaft.

Well, the pulley was a bit damaged and didn't come off the shaft scot free. So the pulley is trash.

I'm really leaning torwards modifying my intake to run the filter and be N/A for a bit. Focus on getting the car cleaned and little issues fixed. I never got it tuned properly, so should run fine still.

One day I'd love to have it supercharged again. But I'm looking at more of a Kenne Belle style positive displacement blower.

Well see how it goes for now. Needs a new belt, odler pulley and possibly ps pump. Has some shaft play.
 
Need to pick up a belt and a tensioner to try and get the car going N/A. Need to get a tube to mount the filter too.

I have always liked the Cobra R Brembo kit Ford racing offered. Unfortunately it seems like that kit is getting harder and harder to get. It's also not cheap, last I saw it was like $1500 ish at Summit.

Did some reading into options. Figured surely with the abundance of Brembos on the newer cars someone had made an adapter of some sort ti run them in the older cars. Like the Mustang Steve brackets.

Didn't find any brackets to mount s197/s550 brakes on a new edge..but I did find something more intriguing.

Enter the Cadillac ATS and XTS models. Both available with Brembos that are considerably cheaper. I nabbed these two brandy new on rockauto for like 110 ish a piece. They have removable mounting bushings which can be replaced with a set made to allow this caliper to bolt right onto the factory Ford spindle. I should hopefully have the new bushings in the next couple days.

I have reached out to a local powdercoater, only downside is I'd have to pull the pistons and reinstall them after coating. Still not too bad. Have to look into it some more.
 
Got a new belt, tensioner, and idler installed. The old tensioner was completely clapped out.

I cleaned everything up and got the car back together in its N/A form. Had to revert back to the stock tune for it to stay running.

Also got some high flow cats I plan to install next week.
 
Its amazing to realize the number of brake components made by the likes of Brembo and Wilwood that are available under other brand names. The Caddy find is really surprising.
 
Yeah, I had never heard of them at all until I started looking for Brembo options for New Edge cars. After watching a video showing that they are essentially bolt on, I was sold on the swap.

I have the adapter pieces already too. The Brembos have a metal bushing pressed in that locates them on the knuckle, the kit comes with new bushings to install that has them bolt right up. The banjo bolt is even the same thread as the stock PBR ones the Bullitt came with. Uses the same 13" rotor too.

I had looked at having the calipers powdercoated. That would require me to take them apart and reassemble them afterwards. I'm not against that on used brakes, but on brand new calipers I decided to try a special paint.

I ordered some G2 caliper paint. It's brush on and includes a hardener like real car paint. Well see how it works here next week.
 
Well I got the G2 paint kit, followed directions to a T and....it looked like trash. The paint was super runny, comes with a set of tiny brushes that are too small, no way to get a solid clean coat. Would be better if if was in an aerosol can. They make 2 part aerosols.

Anyway, I had already found a local powdercoater. Wanted to give the paint a shot, It was so bad I can't ever recommend it for really anything. I was a bit reluctant to take apart brand new Brembos, but calipers are surpringly easy. Hardest part was getting the pistons out, the first couple were easy but direction the air to pop the other side out was not.

I did test fit the calipers on the car. It's close, but fits and should work excellently. This mounts onto stock spindle and thay is a stock 13" cobra rotor that normally has the 2 piston PBR caliper

The calipers are now at the powdercoaters. Fully disassembled. They said it could be a couple weeks, just depends when they can find time.
 
Never have a been so happy a Fixer's attempt at a project failed so miserably. If that paint would have worked you would have ended up with the ugliest calipers ever to be mounted on a mustang.:oops: Why do people think brake calipers need to stand out like that? So ricer! :p

FYI for future reference. You can go to your local hardware store and buy a spray set-up which you could have used to spray that paint. Odds are it would have worked out much better.

I have seen that spray setup before. Was just hoping that I could get the clean smooth finish they show on they're media ads. I know that stuff is usually heavily doctored, but my results weren't even close.

The calipers are getting coated and should be a much cleaner more professional look. Hopefully not ricey, that's definitely not my aim.

The paint company does offer official Mustang specific paint colors too. In the future, I may consider using them again, but only with a spray system like you've posted above. They even have dark highland green for Bullitts!
 
Me thinks you're still going with that green, aren't you. Remember though, I'm that same dude who owned the 2014 Gotta Have it Green GT. Not against the color just have a thing against the Autozone Honda warriors that all paint their calipers those bright gaudy colors. Stock ones too mind you! To each their own for sure but that doesn't mean old guys can't have opinions. :Do_O
 
I'm am going with a lighter green on the calipers. I did really like the gotta have it green car color, except the metallic flake. I really wish they'd have stuck with a normal gloss like grabber blue was.

What kills me more then thevpainted claiper is the plastic covers. I saw those on a newer Challenger the other day...that car has bolt on brembos available on higher package trims.

Honestly I had originally wanted the Cobra R brembo kit. But that kit seems to have finally been exhausted. Both Summit and American Muscle keep saying it'll be at least 12+ weeks to ship, and that goal post keeps moving. Only bit I wasnt thrilled about with the Cobra R brembos was the color, black calipers.
 
I really liked my GTHG GT color. Until my kid did something to mar the side of the front bumper cover. Color matching and spray blending to repair was not fun! I finally got it and was very proud of that repair. Couldn't tell it was done. Metallics are always tough but that multi-step color one was something else.
 
Installed the cats into the midpipe. They fit nicely and everything seemed to bolt up fine. May look into having a local shop bend me up a new mod pipe or weld up this one so it's solid and hopefully doesn't hang as low.

Got some tunes on the way from AM/Bama. They told me the MAF I'm running is not supported for a N/A setup, so I ordered a stock MAF and a new CAI. Everything should be in mid next week. Really looking forward to having the car running well!
 
I got the new maf in. Had to use a Drexel and vise grips to get the bolts off the SCT maf. They were those dang security torx bits with the stud in the center.

Stock maf fits for now. Updated my tuner and downloaded the new tunes. Car runs much better. Email said the pcm can take 50 miles or so to learn the new parameters and adjust.

I also have a snazzy new intake coming, made just for Bullitts. Supposed to move the filter into the fender area. Wanted to get a new intake to run the right maf housing. Bullitts have a unique intake manifold and throttle body so cant just slap a GT intake on there. That should be in Wednesday.

I need to remember to snap more pictures.
 
Gosh, had one of my tail pipes come loose from the mid pipe on the way to work this morning.

Definitely my fault. Been so busy with work I haven't taken the time to check and retighten everything after a few heat cycles.

No real damage. I was able to slip an M12 nut onto the reaming stud and get it to the shop. Gonna need at least one proper nit to replace the meteor one and then a stud/bolt and nut for the other side.

Not super happy with how low this all hangs. Pictures seem to show factory exhaust had a hanger around the cat area. Mine doesn't have that currently. It's only the headers and then the rear tailpipe hangers on mine. Not great
 
Took some pictures for my intake install today.

I like that new intake is a cleaner looking setup. Getting the filter and maf onto the tube inside the fenderwell was not something I'd like to do again.

The car unfortunately doesn't run properly with this new intake. Super lame, the website says that this intake doesn't require a tube change, but maybe thats only on a stock setup. I've got a new ticket in for the tunes to be revised. Also made sure to remind them that the car has the Bullitt intake and TB. I hate that the site randomly turns some pics sideways. I know you can see my crap hose union in detail there. My old intake only had one vacuum port, new one has two. I plan to redo the two lines and plumb them into the ports properly.

The TB is something I've thought about replacing, accifab makes some nice ones. I am really wanting to do a Kenne Bell positive displacement supercharger so I'm trying to only do engine mods that would be usable with that in mind.

I also tightened up the exhaust. Had some nuts and bolts that worked and fit perfectly, 7/16"

Here hoping they can get the tune revised quickly!
 
Been a long busy weekend. Had to drive and then babysit ammo for the units range weekend. Nice view though.

Unfortunately the tuners replied and told me the tune doesn't need any revisions. Then they kept asking for a 10 minute datalog. I kept explaining that the car literally stalls right out. Not even long enough to throw a code.

Anywho, my intake has an "optional" molded plug for the MAF near the stock location, so I punched that out and proceeded to give it a try.

Also nabbed a picture clearly showing the arrow pointing to the TB. I really need to find some nicer clamps. The ones on the TB are lame.

The car runs and idles with the MAF in this spot. Idle was still pretty erratic, but I also hadn't hooked up the pcv line or put a proper filter on. Of course I need to order a new filter since the tubing is 4.5" Most cone/universal filters are 3 or 4.

Now I have to wait til Thurs or Friday for the new filter to arrive from Summit.
