I'm not an electrical engineer but that kind of fact never stopped me from uttering my uneducated opinion on stuff before...so here goes!
There have been many internet reports of issues with return to center of steering systems after the installation of aftermarket electric steering set-ups. Like anything else on the internet one should be careful at taking stuff as fact but the volume of noise must have some credence. Of course, it all could be user created problems just as well as an actual symptom of the electric steering kits.
The biggest contributor to steering returning to center is the suspension caster adjustment. With enough caster the system will rather quickly work its way back to "home". While having an electric motor adding assist coupled to the steering wheel reduces effort when turning the steering wheel I wonder if the mechanical system trying to rehome itself might get a bit of electrical resistance from the motor when it is being forced back the other way. That's the only thing I can think might be a cause of issue.
I'm still a fan of the Borgeson fluid box. Reworking the valve in the pump to limit the assist to just this side of nothing made my car work exactly as I wanted. LOVE it. So naturally I went and built a junkyard electric steering system out of GM bits for the old truck. One day I'll know how that compares. The little coupe will be old school, muscle builder style. One of each. Perfect.
