G-Tech 67 FB (Candy) Build

I must be missing something.. What keeps the top of the rear spindles from flopping in towards the center section?

The halfshafts are essentially the upper link... I built an offroad gokart a few years ago using a similar arrangement. It worked for my application but I don't think I would use it on a performance car... blow a u joint and you ll be going for a good ride...

We sell that IRS, we make custom brackets to install it in a mustang. I do prefer to install it here as most welds
I have seen out there are less to be desired.. I have been working with Heidts on an IRS with upper control arms
that is now in production. The issue is running exhaust, I prefer the exhaust running over the axel. The New IRS has control
arm and brackets where our exhaust runs, and I am not a fan of running the exhaust under the diff (like the corvette's)
so yet another issue to work out..

With the new setup, I take it the half shafts will be splined to allow for their length to change as the suspension cycles... On the exhaust, it looks like you could run it between the lower control arms and the half shafts if you keep it closer to center where the vertical movement of the links isn't too much. It looks like you have a good amount of space to work with there... although the pictures could be decieving...

Hmmm,,,, The half shaft on the new IRS is allot smaller in diameter and is a CV joint.. I think you may be on to something
That could possibly work , Now we have to get one in here to try...

Yeah the closer you get to the brakes the less travel those pieces will have and the more clearance you'll have with the exhaust between them. Just have to watch out for the heat from the exhaust on the brakes.
