Kats Project

I put my husband to work yesterday and made him remove the trans & driveshaft. :thu

Now I got to borrow a friends trailer that has a winch so I can get Gertrude to Classic Collision and Restoration (classicdoug's shop). Tiny bit closer to getting that cowl on! :yah

Since Gert will be gone a few days, that will clear up my garage some so I'll be able to clean up the engine and tranny and do some painting to make them look decent. As well as mop up the oil and trans fluid all over the floor.

I wasn't sure if I could paint the front stuff (harmonic balancer?) so I covered it up.

You can and probably should paint the damper and pulleys. You'll see as much if not more of them then the rest of the engine when its all back together.

Do I have to take all that off or can I just leave it as is and shoot it with paint? I ask because I don't feel like renting a puller and trying to remove stuff.

You don't need a puller to take the pulley off. Leave the damper on but I would take the pulley off to clean it up. It would be much easier plus you could get the mating surfaces clean to prevent the surface rust from getting under the new paint on the exposed areas.

Well I tried removing the pulley... it ain't happening! Bolts are too tight. So I cheated & painted the pulley while it's still on. Except I painted it dark gray, not black. :roll I just had to use gray on something. LOL

The damper.. that's the thing right behind the pulley, between the pulley and the bottom of the water pump?

Ok.. looking a little better. :confu

You are forgetting Gertrude isn't even home! She's still up at the body shop. She may, or may not come home this week. I have to go up there here in a little while and see how much the cowl broke my husbands wallet. If not too bad, then I can have Doug and his crew do the other things like repair that hole at the top of the window. :thu

You didn't get a price before having the work done....? :wth

Sheuuut. Maybe I will fly out and work on your car.

I know how much the hourly rate is, but can't get a total until the work is done. :char And luckily... it was what Doug had guessed, 10hrs to put the new cowl on. I went ahead and told them to go ahead and fix the rust hole along the window. :thu

For the rust hole on the window, you should do what most PO's do and just fill the hole full of bondo. That way it will give the next owner of the car something to rant about... :hide

Shoot.. that would save me like $200!! :confu

There will be no next owner of Gert. I plan on being buried in her. :skul
