All the Eleanor guys do it. There are sources where one can buy a recessed door kit (tanksinc.com for one, http://www.tanksinc.com/index.cfm/page/ptype=results/category_id=60/mode=cat/cat60.htm) and then all you need do is fab up a tube to connect to the tank. I'm thinking a rear quarter type location for a coupe rather then the sail panel on a fastback. Not sure why you would want to but not that difficult to do.
 
I have not seen it done on a 65/66. I personally didn't care for it on the Eleanor either. There were a lot of design features I do like on Eleanor but the filler neck in the sail panel and the little lights next to the headlights were some I don't like.
 
I like the filler neck on the sail panel but thats also because i hate how much GAS pours out when i fill my coupe...lol However, I just want do that on the 65 and not sure id want to
 
I'm not trying to talk you out of it. I just like the original spot better i guess.
I have also made a modification to the filler neck so it won't spill and the pump shuts off. I can show you and you can make one for your 67 also
 
There just isnt enough sail panel on the 65....Especially for the Cap they use on 67...So it doesnt make any sense for it...Im definitely interested in what you did.
 
basically make a plate with a hole the size of the gas pump nozzle. Cut the end of your filler about an inch from flange. Weld them back together with the plate in there. I place the hole a little off center (low). That allows the nozzle to get in there all the way. I drill a tiny hole at the bottom for a vent and any drainage.gas tank 3.JPG gas tank 1.JPG
 
I put the plate about an inch away from the flange. I have an old gas pump nozzle so I played around with how it fit. There is a air hole in the end of the nozzle that senses pressure changes to shut-off. You have to make sure that gets inside the plate to do its job
