yep, thanks!
I'm looking for a Victor Jr.

I got a little more done before i ran out of acetylene in my torch. Every local place that carries it is closed today... :rant

so I drilled thru the inner rail holes into the outer (which is staying on the car). these will serve as alignment holes.

I got the car cleaned up, now to prep the 68 frame rails

I traded the 65 "spear-o-matic" and the 65 strut rods and mounts for a 68 gearbox and a late 67 column (that way I don't have to change the brake pedal)

I'd go for it. It looks like it moves the wheels out an inch.

I'm sure it will. The 67-73 LCA's are approx. 2" longer than the 65-66. The 67-70 towers only move the LCA pivot inboard 1" each side so the ball joint ends up being 1" further outboard than a 65-66. This accounts for the 1" wider track of the 67-70 cars. You can't make that up with a higher backspace wheel as your stuck maxing out at 4.75" before the rim hits the ball joint assuming you are using the stock height spindle. So my thought is that if you put 67-70 shock towers on a 65-66 with 67-70 suspension the wheels would stick out 1" further each side than those same wheels fitted to a 65-66. If you ran some kind of really short spindle you could go deeper with the backspace and have the rim come over the top of the ball joint.

I wonder what wheel combo's these guys who have done the tower swap end up using?

I was able to bolt on some 2005 16x7 OEM Mustang wheels with a 1" spacer on the 68. The OEM wheel is 35mm offset which converts to between 5.25" and 5.5" B.S. (which would equate to 4.25-4.5" with spacer)

05 wheels on 68 in pic below, that is fact the doner front clip. I didn't try without the spacer because I knew the wheels had more BS than the stock 68. They didn't rub any suspension with the spacers. I can try them again on the 65 when I get it put together

these pics are from the internet of a conversion, I don't know for sure that the last pic is before or after. The styled steel wheel was a 14x5 with 3.75 BS so maybe it's just skinny?

The 68 has a fender that is 1" wider also (slight flare).

yes, I am hoping run the wheels (or similar) without the spacer. That would be perfect. I will see if it works...

Joey (fordrule) found a 66 coupe in a pic-a-part in Clarksville. I went and got a left fender for $47. Thats about all that was any good. It was pretty picked over.
Its a little crusty but so is the rest of the car!

Icy conditions kept me home and in the garage today. Too bad it was working on my truck. Trying to change the hub assmebly on it turned out to be a pain. It's still up in the air waiting for me to figure out how to get the hub broke loose from the knuckle... damn salty roads have fused it. Sorry to muddle your thread lol... had to vent.

Looking really good. Nothing like making parts work to silence the naysayers.

thanks Bill, it was pretty nasty here this morning too. I worked in the office (across the hall from my bed room!) this morning then a little in the garage this afternoon. I ran out of gas in my torch again. I really need to rent the bigger tanks.
Hope you get your truck fixed. It's one thing to tinker with projects but another to work on the DD

Yep, especially with icy roads. I planned to drive it into work in the morning, but looks like I'll brave it in the Sunfire :skul
