My newest project, '59 Apache Truck

Actually I haven't done much at all to the truck(except get the I6 running and fix the rear springs! Believe me, there's plenty to do!
I'll work on getting the Impala out of my garage next week, then pull the Apache in and begin pulling that motor~ I don't think it should take very long, the trany kind of scares me a bit cause it's so large and bulky(dangerous). Then I'm going to order one of those replica blocks to mock my engine setup as I don't have mounts or maybe find and old chevy block somewhere to use. (I"ll be posting it all here, I don't make very large steps without ya'll! :wor

Then pull the inner fender wellls out of the front or at least the drivers side to access the installation for the power steering. Guess I'll go with the Ididit steering column and Lokar shifter(floor shifter for automatic, looks like a granny shifter). Clean the engine compartment and paint it, not sure what color yet,but probably eeeeyah :roll, black. I like my mustang engine compartment, it's orange like my stang, very bright!

I'd like a serpentine belt setup, I may look around and see what's out there, not the really expensive ones, something stock, but I can always continue with the regular old belt setup.
As always, I appreciate the compliments, comments and advice! :wor

For the tranny, check and see if a section of the cab floor is removable. If so...go in with a hoist.

Thank Pete! that's a great idea! and yes, there is a very large plate inside the cab. So when the seat is out, I should have plenty of room~ then just maybe wrap a sling around it and lower it onto a furniture dolly! Sounds like I've done it already :shrug My transmission guy said those 4 speed granny's weigh about 400lbs?

help! electrical

I'm considering using this bench seat from the impala. It's electric(goes all directions) and I believe it may serve me well in my truck. I can have it upholstered to match what color i use in my truck. The upholstery is tatered n torn a bit, and could be used if I were to just stick with what color is in the truck. But that wouldn't be a challenge then would it!
Here again, I could never have gottne this seat out of this Impala by myself without my "little Mule", my little crane! I generally work alone so I have to use brain over brawn~ all the time!; )

The problem I have found why the seat doesn't work is this relay! It goes under the seat. It really had me bafffled! However, the two little wires coming off of the coiled thing are oxidized and not even touching the terminals, so the relay is no good. Darn it, I should have marked them for reference! Even if I dont' use the seat, this is kind of tatalizing working on the electrical stuff!

below:
1) the far left spade goes to the motor
2) the middle spade is always positive
3)these four alternate with the switch reversing polarity(2 wires going to the motor and the other two wires to the switch, but not really sure. I thought one was a ground, but I think it just uses chassis for ground via the motor?

I was trying to figure out how to utilize a standard relay from the autoparts store, but having a difficult time figuring it out. :confu so, help?

Have you tried a Chevy Dealer......or after market restoration parts. I would not want to trust that NOT to burn the truck down if it does not clean up real good.

Didnt even cross my mind Pete and there's one just down the street~automatically just figured these don't exist and tomorrow is SUNDAY ! Well, If Gary will leave me alone for a few hours, I'll finish pulling the steering column out and parking brake mechansim and be done with the Impala :yah Not sure If I'll use this stuff, but better to have it than not~ ; )

Sure enough....sometimes we get so wrapped up in things we fail to see the forest for the trees.....

belt setups so far

I'm in the market for a belt setup, or actually the entire front of the engine~ I'm a little concerned as my passenger side head only has one hole in it,but maybe I can drill a hole?

This is my engine as it sits right now.

This a product is from alan groves; I like the wide look and the price is reasonable. I'd be just buying the brackets, probably a couple hundred. of course I would supply everything else. I do know this photo is a BB, but the brackets would look very similar.

This is from SUmmit racing, which includes everything seen here, this is a serpentine setup. about 850.oo
Summitbeltsetup.jpg

This is an awesome Billet setup from Billet industries. Includes everything again, but polished everything in a V-belt (1400.oo) vs. Serepentine(the Serpentinve setup is about 2500.oo)

That looks to be a simple 2 pole relay. Those wires off the coil are the power leads. One is the 12v+ the other a ground. Most likely (hard to see in the picks) the two poles are both just normally open contacts that close when the switch is made and the coil on this relay is powered. You can put something together for a few bucks to replace it if you didn't locate a replacement piece.

Hey Terry, I went to the dealership to see if they had that relay(AzPete said to try), well, the number wasn't any good and said goodluck. So I went to radioshack and bought a 40 amp bosch relay and actually got it working! I just need to clean up the wiring~ I just hooked it up with jumper wires to see if it would work. There are 6 mechanisms driven by a main unit that uses, looks like speedometer cable, but heavier. Then there are six little "jacks" that the speedometer looking cables run to, so I overhauled each little "jack", so just need to spend a little time putting it back together. I'll get photos up later. Thanks!

hm~ a while back, my username was Sportbikechick as I used to ride sportbikes and was heavy into that scene! DUe to heath issues I gave up bikes and continued to use Sportbikechick as my username even on STangfix. After a while, it didn't seem correct anymore, so I told Sluggo that I just wanted to use my real name as my user name. Even when I log in, I still have to log on as Sportbikechick~ :shrug I find that to be interesting! ;)

Between 1999 to 2007 I was into sportbikes and trackdays, due to health issues, had to go onto the next segment of what my health would allow and classic cars seemed to be the ticket which led me to my first restomod and here to stangfix. Tinnitus was the factor that changed my direction, now seems that back and neck issues may change my direction again. If I get finished with my Apache, that will be the end of this era : ( What's next?

To me, beech seats look the best in a PU. I do not the look of buckets in a truck. Glad you got the power option working. You will have this thing up and running in no time.

yes, Jan, I'm sure the the bench seat shown when reupholstered should look really nice! I'll just go with lap seat belts too. I may look into how to incorporate 3 point seat belts. ; )

Looks like I'll be going with this setup, of course for a SB. It's much more affordable than the Billet setup. So, I'm waiting for the AC guy to call me and we'll complete the deal if there are no more questions. I just need to get a new waterpump, an alternator(not sure which one, one wire?) and clean up my power steering pump.

You know, If I had the room, I'd think about it! The rear seat out of the Impala is in perfect condition, might make a nice "sofa" in the garage, you know has a slight curve to it! DArn, this sounds like a project!! :yah Im pulling that rear seat before the Impala leaves! Maybe incorporate the door panels somehow too! darn, there goes my wall space! or maybe make a transportable seat to take to the Nifty50ees! :confu there goes my brain! Thanks Janshutz :wor
