'65 Fastback Build--Reassembly

Re: '65 Fastback Build--Updated 11/10/2010

There's nothing like fresh paint. Can't wait to see it completely in color.

Lookin' good!!!

Re: '65 Fastback Build--Updated 11/18/2010

Today I decided to go into the attic and see what parts I put up there 6 years ago. I stumbled upon most of the interior trim, so I decided to tackle that. Fortunately this car came mostly complete, even though it was a huge POS, so many of the hard to find parts are there. I thoroughly washed all the parts and then did the "Easy Off" trick. They are still outside soaking now, so hopefully it works.

After 3 attempts, they came out pretty good. It's much tougher to get the paint off in the areas that have the textured grain. The flat pieces come clean in one attempt. I also scrubbed a bit with a nylon brush, and a 3M red pad. Originally my interior was White/Ivy Gold, but will be all black.

Yup...the Easy Off HD trick works great! It's best when used outside and above 70* or so...it don't work worth squat at 50*. You can ask how I know...

So how do you know?

I spent an entire afternoon with temps about 55* trying to get paint off the FB interior panels with minimal success. The next weekend at 75*, it came right off!

Re: '65 Fastback Build--Updated 11/19/2010

I was able to paint the trim pieces I cleaned up yesterday. I used the lacquer interior spray bomb from NPD, and it works great. It goes on very thin and dries practically in seconds. I'm very happy how everything came out. I still have a few more interior trim pieces to tackle, the biggest being the rear side panels, but now that I have a system they should go pretty quick.

If everything goes as planned this weekend, my next update will be a big one.

Cool didn't really think the temp would make that much of a difference.

To hot will also cause problems with the EZ Off drying to fast. That stuff is what we used to remove after market custom painted pin striping from motorcycles too.

I try that line with my wife and it never goes as expected.

It's finally painted! Unfortunately, I'm currently at work, but should be home to see it tomorrow (It's killing me!) My wife took some iPhone pics as it came off the flatbed. Once I get home, I'll update with some better pics. But, for now:

Awesome job Ryan. All those hours fitting the parts and sanding, and sanding, and sanding, paid off well. Beautiful!!!

Re: '65 Fastback Build--Updated 11/21/2010

Thanks guys! I was able to come home and see it in person. Overall, I'm really happy with it. I just have a few items on the punch list. I can't wait to push it out into the sun and check out that new paint!
