Maybe Jess and Bonnie can push us around the circle?

I'm getting tired of you posting all these hand fabricated pieces of art. You're making the rest of us look like hacks.

Ain't that the damn truth!

while I agree your work is art and it make me look like a hack for sure, I still enjoy seeing it! (cuz this is the prototype for me right?)

Some more forward progress to report.

Finished the 2nd forward mount bed bracket. They turned out being a pretty good match:

Smoothed in:

And mounted:

And now with permanent, operable tailgate:

I'm not sure if I will keep the chains or go with something else...

Just some more mount shots:

I installed some 1-1/8" pop-in type plugs where the rear shock access holes are. Not sure if I like that look or not. Yes?

And just a cool shot I thought:

Brrr... must'a been cold. Check out my headlights!

These things are AWESOME! And they are friggin huge. Though, I have no idea what they are from... perhaps another great challenge for Pete...?

They go great with the styling of the truck so far.

Idea of size compared to my mellon hands

There appear to be no markings, etc on the outsides of the housings. I need to open them up and see if there is any markings, etc on the inside.

you know if your not careful this thing will be too nice to be called a Rat Rod! So far it's one of the nicest I've seen. Most are roughly done and scary crude. This is a Street Rod quality build without the shiny paint! I love it!!! :10 :good

Lookin' GOOD! I'll beat the dead horse with a stick, and tell you its definitely among the cleanest rat rods I've ever seen. I'll have some questions for you about the frame down the road. And those headlights look like they'll fit the theme nicely. I look forward to seeing a pic of them mocked up on the body.

Are you still planning on painting it with the two layered colors and sanding through the top in areas to give it the patina'd look? I saw a similar treatment on a '36 Ford Coupe in a Street Rodder a few years ago, and it looked great.

Is there any identification for the headlamps themselves? I'd hate for one to go out on you and to find out there are no replacements.

I was thinking about your plugs question and was wondering if you were still going with the bullet shell casing theme? Judging by how your new headlights look like bullets, make something look like that for you plugs, or use some big bullet. Or at least some sort of metal spike. That is of course if the bed is still going to be open. If you put a floor in, don't worry about it.

Nice catch; I was wondering if anyone was going to catch that resemblance.

And yes - still open. What you see it what it wil be with the exception of the gas tank & battery back there.

I was also thinking maybe I could get a large tap and thread those holes (which are 3/16" thick wall - so not a lot of material to thread) and just screw in a 1-1/8" bolt that has been cut down length wise. Just for looks bsically. It would resemble the visible bolts for the bed mounts. Make sense? Just another thought.
