70_Fastback: RAT ROD - 193x Ford / 1942 GMC Truck

No no no, that's not right, this is just the proto-type (which he will give to me) so it will be hauling my arse! :lol

The only thing it will be hauling is...."his" arse.

If that is the case I hope he has a big gas tank because he is going to have to make more than one trip.

Remember.... I know where you live.
Is it Halloween, or do you always have that knife sticking out of your back Jeremy??? :eek

It's just the same knife he usually plunges into other backs :amaz

Oh no. I feel a South Partk episode coming on.

You can't say it in the following ways (even though it may be true):

Why does he get offended easily about his lifestyle choices?

Back to serious business now.

Halloween and a slight hangover cut into my rat rod mojo time this past weekend. But I still managed to fab the engine mounts for the 460 and get the engine mounted permanent. I still need to make the tranny crossmember next.

I had to remove the engine again though to be able to fully weld the frame brackets. And since the engine was out I took the front drivetrain back out and took the spindles off to R&R them and install new king pins so I can push Rick around the cul-de-sac when he comes to visit! I also have to heat and drop the steering arms so they clear my axle since I am running them out front.

Anyway... pics, pics, pics of progress!

Again, everything was hand cut on my bandsaw; all 1/4" steel plate, for the block plates and frame mounts.

Making the block plates:

Just tacked together here:

Fully bushed engine mounts. The cross tube is 2"OD - 1.5"ID - 1/4" wall DOM tubing. 1-15/16" wide to accept the bushings:

Partially welded to the frame:

This is where I had to remove the engine and remove the bushings so I would not melt them from the heat when welding. Plus I had to access the underneath side of the mount to weld it also.

The inner webbing is fully welded on the back side - I didn't want to see a bead on the front of it.

Bushed with the 9/16" ID inserts:

I like them. I was going to fully box the brackets in, but honestly I'm tired of boxing stuff in! LoL. So these are open. And I think the holes match the front portion of the frame as well.

I think I need to come over to gawk and get a welding lesson!

I don't appreciate your degrading comment Pete.

Not degrading.....just wondering how many lessons it will take to get the cam just right.......

J as par for the course thus far very superb craftsmanship. Couple of questions, Is the tubing seamless DOM? Do you think with the 460 and the torque they are known for that triangulation of the vertical mounts to the frame on each side would greatly strengthen the mounts?
