Selene/Fred is a San Jose built 1965 Mustang

Yep....buy some stock ones. The long ones over stress the spring and flatten the arch. Those are a poor way to raise the rearend for oversized tires or a way to compensate for weak springs.

Buy these type....

Waiting for the weekend to upgrade my shielding gas bottle to a bigger one(I ran out due to all my practicing), Blaw! As soon as I get my filled bigger bottle, RS front apron is going in.

If you want to conserve gas, try turning down the pressure at the regulator... so long as you get a clean weld, you've got plenty of sheilding. I started around 20 PSI but went through gas much too quick, now run about 12 psi in the garage and boost it back up when working outdoors if there is a light wind.

Abe, I recommend the rear suspension kit from Mustangs Plus - I went for the 4.5 leaf mid-eye set, but they have lots of options and the kit includes everything you need (shackles, bushings, bolts etc). I think the only thing I re-used were the plates that hold the springs to the rear axle...sure you can refurb yours...it's all on my blog somewhere.

Thanks for the tip. I was running it at 22 and it lasted maybe a hour and a half. No bueno. LoL. I'll give it try starting at 20 and work the pressure down.

Thanks for the suggestion Ian. I have really appreciated your blog by the way, it has come extremely handy and have enjoyed watching your progress.

I will check out Mustangs plus for sure, I think the hanger plate can be salvaged. I was also looking at the panhard hanger plates in case I go that route in the future (thanks Mark).

Finally. The RS Fender Apron is welded in place. WhoRaw!

Makin' progress sure feels good, don't it?! Keep up the good work!!!

It feels great Mike, I actually have accomplished something that when I first took Fred apart never thought I could ever do myself. I'm on cloud nine. LoL

Nice work Abe!

Thanks Ryan, I keep telling myself that I need to just hang in there and to remember Bob from "What about Bob", it's all about BABY STEPS for me. :beer Like I said before, your build thread always gives me that boost of encouragement I need when I am feeling lost in the wide world of rust over here.

Great lookin' job on the battery apron Abe. Glad to see you got it worked out! :thu

John, really good to see your build thread as well, you have done so much in so little, congrats. I loved those custom zebra stripes. That was awesome. LoL

Here are some more photos of the work taken not from my phone, but from my little digital canon. Still need to do some grind work to the welds but over all I am extremely happy with the way it turned out.

That looks very nice - all the welding practice has obviously paid off.
